Primary Program

Coastal Empire Montessori Charter School’s Primary program is designed to meet the developmental and academic needs of the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten child. It is our school’s belief that the child’s work is motivated by a sense of self-worth and self-confidence gained through “learning by doing.”

Each child is given individual and small group lessons based on her/his needs and is invited to continue choosing those activities that interest her/him. Once a student masters a concept, the teacher follows the CEMCS Curriculum and presents the student with the subsequent material or lesson. The CEMCS Curriculum aligns the Montessori Method and Philosophy with the Georgia Standards of Excellence to ensure that students are presented with and mastering the expected state standards, within the Montessori Method.

The primary classroom is set up in five distinct areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, English Language Arts, Math and Cultural Studies. The foundational lessons in Practical Life Skills and the Sensorial Materials equip the child with skills necessary to explore and experience the various areas of the classroom and outdoor environment.

Because the materials are engaging, many students are involved in academic work, however the fundamental goal of the Primary program is to nurture self-motivation, self-discipline and independence.
